MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CEO

During more than 100 years of existence, Kruger has diversified and expanded its harvesting and manufacturing operations. With prevention, rather than correction, as a precept, the protection of resources and energy conservation is a decisional factor in the planning of all capital investments. In addition to all the measures taken to ensure clean effluents and air emissions, well-structured recycling and energy-saving measures have been implemented in each mill.

Kruger sees to the training and proficiency of its employees, who are proud to participate in the various conservation and protection programs. We ensure the continuous improvement of our processes to optimize the use of wood fiber and recycled pulp in the paper furnish. Dry debarking, high-yield mechanical pulping processes and the use of chip by-product from the conversion of wood into lumber in sawmills have also been integrated into our operations.

Our pulp and paper mills in Brompton, Trois-Rivières and Corner Brook as well as our Kruger Products Limited facilities, have all conformed to rigorous environmental standards. The results of our analyses reveal that the final effluents from all our facilities are non-toxic.

Kruger fully supports global sustainable development objectives, notably by using appropriate silvicultural methods to ensure the protection of forest ecosystems and biodiversity. All forest lands under our responsibility are managed according to the principle of sustainable forest development.

We are drawing closer to citizens living in the neighboring regions of our mills and First Nations’ representatives by inviting them to public consultation sessions on various topics of common interest. Our participation in the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association’s (CPPA) "Open Doors" program also shows our openness and willingness to communicate to the public the extent of our progress in terms of environmental protection.

We owe our advancement and achievements to sound environmental management, employee empowerment, as well as their constant vigilance and will to carry through the successful completion of our continuous improvement program.
