Kruger Policies
FOREST POLICY
Kruger Inc. supports a sustainable and integrated approach
to forest management which enables economic development that
respects environmental, social and cultural values. Kruger Inc.
manages its forest resources according to the following guiding
principles and strives to:
- Commit to excellence in sustainable forest management on
the land base under the company's responsibility;
- Plan and conduct its forest management activities in a manner
that meets or exceeds legal requirements;
- Comply with applicable regional, provincial and national
forest management principles as well as industry codes of
practice;
- Protect key forest resources including timber, wildlife,
landscape, water, soil, and biodiversity while managing for
the forest's multiple uses, values and benefits;
- Apply site-specific and ecologically sound silvicultural
and harvesting techniques and renew harvested forest stands
through natural regeneration and reforestation;
- Promote public awareness and provide for public input, including
from aboriginals, into its forest management planning process;
- Promote sustainable forest management and environmental
awareness amongst its employees, its contractors, suppliers
and clients and train employees in their specific forest management
responsibilities;
- Improve its knowledge of sustainable forest management through
the support of scientific research and apply results, where
appropriate, in its forest management activities;
- Enhance the long term productivity of the forest, within
the ecosystem's capacity, to ensure a cost-competitive fibre
supply to its mills;
- Monitor its forest management systems on a regular basis
through internal and external audits and use the results to
continually improve its performance in all aspects of sustainable
forest management.
Kruger inc. will provide, in partnership with other organizations,
the necessary human, physical and financial resources to implement
this forest policy at each of its subsidiaries.
