About Kruger
Founded in 1904, Kruger has operations in Québec, Ontario,
Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, the United
States and the United Kingdom. The company has 9,000 employees.
Its activities are divided into seven business units:
Publication Papers – This
business unit produces two million tonnes per year of newsprint
and coated, supercalendered and directory paper in its four
mills located in Brompton and Trois-Rivières (2), Québec,
as well as in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. This
business unit also includes a pulp mill, in partnership, located
in Marathon, Ontario.
Tissue – This business
unit manufactures and markets bathroom tissue, facial tissue,
paper towels and hand towels, dispensing systems, soaps, disinfectants,
disposable wiping products and a complete range of commercial
and industrial products under such prestigious brand names as
Cashmere, Scotties, SpongeTowels, Purex, White Swan and White
Cloud. The five Canadian plants of Kruger Products Limited are
located in Crabtree, Sherbrooke and Gatineau, Québec;
Calgary, Alberta and New Westminster, British Columbia. This
business unit also operates a plant in Memphis, Michigan and
one in the United Kingdom.
Krupack Packaging – This
business unit produces linerboard from 100% recycled fibre,
as well as regular and die-cut boxes, both brown and white top,
using recycled fibre, point-of-purchase displays and a wide
range of other board containers that can be used to transport
food and drink, fruits and vegetables, flowers, household appliances,
equipment parts, etc. This business unit has plants in Montréal
(2), Québec and Brampton, Ontario.
Forest and Wood Products –
This business unit produces lumber, panels and sub-flooring.
It is made up of seven sawmills that produce lumber in Québec,
three in the Mauricie, three on the North Shore and one in Abitibi,
as well as a sawmill, in partnership, in the United States (Moose
River Company). In Ontario, there are veneer and waferboard
panel mills in Longlac, and two plants in Mississauga that manufacture
sub-flooring using a unique, recently patented process, which
is marketed under the names DRIcoreTM and SubflorTM.
Energy – Kruger Energy
is a business unit dedicated to producing green and renewable
energy: hydro-electric and wind energy and energy from biomass.
It carries out projects that revolve around the protection of
the environment and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Kruger Energy operates hydroelectric plants in Brompton, Québec
and Deer Lake, Newfoundland as well as energy plants from biomass
at the Brompton and Corner Brook mills. A wind energy project
is in the process of being completed in Port Alma, Ontario.
Recycling – The recycling
business unit processes 700,000 tonnes of recycled paper and
board per year. Nearly half of the fibre used in the manufacturing
process of Kruger’s paper and board mills are recycled.
Kruger Recycling operates two sorting and recovery centres in
Québec, in Montréal and Sherbrooke, as well as
three centres in partnership, two of which are in Toronto and
one in Albany, New York. This business unit also operates in
the market of confidential document destruction, and this paper
also goes to recycling. Kruger operates integrated recycling
plants at its paper mills.
Wines and Spirits – This
business unit is a leading winemaker and marketer of wines and
spirits that offers an impressive range of more than 250 products
under the aegis of the Maison des Futailles (MDF): Kamouraska
vodka; VS Global Cognac; Sortilège whiskey; Pomme de
Glace, an ice cider; Australian wines such as Australian Ridge
and Settler’s Cove; Reserva de Peron, from Argentina;
Marquis de Méricourt and Châtenois, Québec
wines; and Girondin AOC, from Bordeaux, as well as the “Maître
Sommelier” and “Rewine” brands. MDF’s
main office is located in Montréal and its two production
operations are in Montréal and Saint-Hyacinthe. The Mondia
Alliance division represents many world-renowned brands, including:
Francis Ford Coppola; Angostura; Champagne Pol Roger; Tariquet,
wines from France; Ramos Pinto, wines and ports from Portugal,
and many other famous brands.
